Strongly linked to the European Space Agency and to some of the major aerospace industries worldwide, Saphyrion has the mission to become the reference source of rad-hard, RF/mixed signals integrated circuits increasingly needed by the community of space-borne electronics engineers to enable more and more demanding endeavours in space exploration. The company aims therefore to become a key player in the development of an European independence in the production of this class of strategic components.

The business of Saphyrion is currently focused on radiation-hardened Space-qualified RF front-end ASICs, which were developed originally under European Space Agency (ESA) contracts. Since for these devices a commercial process (supplied by AMS, Austria and now also by other foundries) had to be used, Saphyrion developed in-house several design and layout techniques to achieve good radiation hardness from a process originally not meant for Space applications. This remarkable expertise allowed exploiting standard semiconductor production plants for rad-hard IC manufacturing, to great benefit of time-to-market and guaranteed availability of products.
