AGMS-K5

Low cost continuously operating GNSS multi-frequency station

Description

The use of GNSS measurements in the determination of the precise position of reference points is widely exploited in geotechnics and civil engineering, but has required so far the availability of professional equipment, which in generally is installed only during the surveying because of its cost and complexity. Leveraging on its well-known experience in GNSS and its access to the latest developments in multi-frequency receivers, Saphyrion offers a viable alternative to these high-end solutions, and allows extending the application of this techniques where millimeter-level precision is sought and the measurement station must operate unattended for long periods of time.

The AGMS-K5 station is a high-precision, standalone unit which transmits via an optimized wireless connection (3G or other specialized link) the raw data measurements logged by a low cost, multifrequency GNSS receiver. The availability of these data makes possible the calculation of the station's position with a precision rivaling that obtainable from the traditional professional stations. Solar-powered and engineered to survive the harshest environment, AGMS-K5 opens new scenarios for the extensive monitoring of landslides, unstable snow layers, subsidence and stability of structures at a fraction of the cost of the standard technologies, and provides a new tool for a pervasive control of the above mentioned hazards at a fraction of the investment required if standard solutions were implemented.
